Best known for welcoming late night East Village party crowds, this 24-hour eatery provides steady, hangover-healing meals. Early Sunday afternoon presented an opportunity for at least 2 in our 7-person gang to put Yaffa’s comfort food menu to a test. We were lucky enough to find a table in the backyard.
The food was expectedly satisfying and coffee refills generous. My slight gripe is against Yaffa’s omelets - made in a traditional wrap style with semi-cooked veggies thrown into the egg pancake just prior to it being transferred to the plate. Due to my egg fickleness, I prefer to cook the vegetables throughout and mix in the whisked and spiced eggs later on. So at Yaffa, to the horror of my condiment-wary friends, I could only stomach the omelet after drowning it in ketchup. The home-fries and the salad with carrot dressing, however, made my Yaffa experience complete, and banana cheesecake desert put it over the reasonable top.
From my previous trips, I remember that Yaffa also serves some tasty sandwiches. And although the food on the menu is not the kind I would constantly crave, the cafe makes for a solid hangout brunch spot.
